These past few days we have been gathering materials to add to my compost. In order for the compost to decompose, there are four main elements that go into the process: Nitrogen, Carbon, Oxygen and Water. The Nitrogen components (Greens) include food scraps, coffee grounds, and garden scraps. Carbon components (Browns) include crushed leaves, straw, and plain cardboard. Adding water will keep the pile moist like a "wrung out sponge". I used the "lasagna" method to create my pile which uses a 1:4 ratio of Greens:Browns and I will be turning my compost once a week. This compost should be finished by Spring 2021. If you are interested I will be hosting a Zoom meeting where I will be teaching the basics of composting. This event will take place on Saturday November 21, 2020 at 7 pm est. Please RSVP by emailing me at FFTGarden@gmail.com.
